Resolving Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft. TeamFoundation. Client'

When attempting to connect AX 2012 R3 to VSTS or TFS, you may run into this error:

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

 

This is fairly easy to resolve. You just need to install Visual Studio 2010, plus two KBs. You can do a minimalist install like so:

 

     Next, install KB983509 then KB2662296 for VS2010. Restart the AX client if you haven't done so already and try again.
